ASCNUK26 Speaker Profile

Sue Pridham
Honorary Secretary, ASCN UK
I have worked in Colorectal Surgery and Stoma Care for my entire nursing career. As a student all of my placements revolved around Colorectal Disease, Endoscopy and Stoma, so it’s not surprising that I went in the direction I did. I started out as a Surgical Nurse on a colorectal ward and quickly progressed into the Specialist Nurse role. I worked across 3 NHS trusts, finishing my NHS career as the Lead Nurse for Ostomy at Manchester Royal Infirmary. I have a particular interest in Convexity and participated in the Convexity Consensus group meeting in Prague, resulting in the Convexity Consensus Document 2017. Other areas of particular interest to me are Pelvic floor, High output, Ileo anal pouch surgery, and Peristomal Skin Health. I contributed to the WCET supplement brochure on skin health and PH in 2018. In 2019 I supported the Australia and New Zealand teams with their advisory board meetings, discussing convexity and skin health. I have also been involved in research, product development/launches and have presented on this at conferences in Europe and the UK. During my time as a Specialist Nurse and Manager, I have always enjoyed teaching and facilitating discussion and find this very beneficial to my own personal growth as a practitioner. I am now the head of the clinical team at Convatec, providing education to HCPs and support to Amcare patients. I am excited to now be on the ASCN UK Committee, and look forward to utilising my knowledge and experience to support the advancement of Ostomy in this ever-changing landscape to support clinical practice and ultimately the best outcomes for our patient cohort.
