I am a Specialist Stoma Care Nurse with extensive experience supporting patients across community and clinic settings. My role focuses on delivering holistic stoma care, helping individuals adapt to life with a stoma while promoting independence, wellbeing, and quality of life. Alongside clinical management, I have a particular interest in the psychological impact of stoma surgery and the importance of providing emotional support alongside physical care.I am actively involved in patient education, service development, and facilitating support initiatives that empower patients to manage the challenges associated with stoma formation. My presentation explores the role of counselling in stoma care and highlights how addressing psychological wellbeing can improve patient outcomes, confidence, adjustment, and overall quality of life following surgery.My current role fell into my in- box during the pandemic and was meant to be. My interview was virtual, my level 6 course was virtual, and I remember it being sometime before I met face to face with my Line manager, Sue Pridham and my Team in real life! I feel passionate about my current role and love making a difference to patients, which will be 6 years this December. I have a wonderful Team I work with and the knowledge within the team is incredible. I soak it all up, always learning, from my patients too!
